From an apartment search to your next step

  1. Confirm the apartment

Ask about the exact unit, availability, full rent, utilities and any fees. A listing date does not confirm that a home is still available.

    Plan your housing search
  2. Prepare the information

Review the documents requested by the landlord and your housing worker. Check deposit and move-in costs before making a commitment.

    Understand move-in costs
  3. Follow your agency’s process

A landlord’s agreement is only one step. Confirm your program’s paperwork, rent review and inspection requirements before signing or moving.

Questions about your NYC housing search

Do I need an account to browse?

No. Browse rentals and read guides without an account. A free account lets you save homes, contact advertisers and apply through VoucherMatch.

Does the listed rent tell me what I will pay?

No. Listings show the advertiser’s asking rent. Your household’s share depends on your program and circumstances. Confirm utilities, assistance and rental approval with your housing agency or worker.

Does a program tag mean the rental is approved?

No. Tags describe information supplied in the listing. An absent tag also does not establish that a property refuses a program. Confirm the details with the advertiser and follow your agency’s approval process.

Where do I find new listing alerts?

Open the NYC apartment search, choose your filters and use its save-search or alert options. Keep your search area and bedroom needs up to date.

Is VoucherMatch a housing agency?

No. VoucherMatch is an independent housing-search platform. Housing agencies issue vouchers and approve program rentals. Official application routes are linked in the housing help section.

Start with the home you need. Keep your housing worker or agency involved as your search moves forward.
